Default 69 Side Pipes

My car is on the road finally and I need to replace the side pipes and the covers I see that Wilcox has a Loud version and a Quiet version, How loud is loud? Mine right now are so loud the wife can hear me 1/4 mile away someone cored out the baffles. I am also looking for a complete kit since the side pipe covers are shot I would like to stay with the chrome. Corvette Central has the complete kit but they do not indicate how loud or quiet, Wilcox sells pieces ends up about 10% more expensive than CC when all is said and done. I am going to need headers to go with the pipes since I do not have original headers either.

The other option is to go with aftermarket pipes but I am worried about burning the legs (the wife's) and a little concerned with the look.

Jack.

My experience with Hooker side pipes on my '69 BB.
Hookers makes 3 insert/mufflers. The reverse flow are quiet, but VERY restrictive. Not recommended.
Without looking it up, they offer a mid grade which has a 1 3/4"? straight through pipe. It sounds good to me but is a little restrictive. I can tell because I can't stop the leaky gases where the joint clamps together. Probably a good choice for a non high performance SB.
I recently put in their Max Flow inserts. They have, I think, a 2 1/8" straight through center pipe, and I THINK that I can feel a little performance gain. No exhaust gas leakage at the joint. BUT, I now sound like a Harley when I get on it. Uncomfortable loud inside.I'm kinda nervous that I may get a ticket. Not sure if I'll go back or not.
As far as burning your leg, it is inevitable if you wear shorts, but with most people, you'll only do it once!

Oh, just saw that your are talking about factory pipes.
Either way, you don't want the reverse flow mufflers.

The quiet version is the way to go.... Loud.. I have loud on my car right now and will be changing it later this year. Mine, like yours are so loud my wife can set the dinner table before I get home...

Quiet pipes are the way to go and if you can wait, I hear a new sale coming Saturday. But if your looking for the covers and pipes just give Tommy a call at 812-288-7103 and he'll fix you up with a good price.
