Then a flat blade screwdriver is used to gently push the grommet into engine compartment..
Then the release for the P/S latch is pressed downward.
Screwriver need not be long..you have to get it thru the grommet hole about 1" or so. Check the pull cable to see IF it is actuating both the D/S hood latch AND that the crossover cable is also releasing the P/S latch.. IMPORTANT ;
DO this with hood OPEN! after manually closing both latches..
On my '78, hood was fitting great but crossover cable wasn't operating the P/S latch..TOO MUCH SLACK IN THE CROSSOVER CABLE.
I shortened the crossover cable about one inch..crimping a new steel ferrule on it on the P/S end..LUBED everything well and haven't had any issues since..YOU can buy a new cable of course..but unless the original is broken-severed you don't HAVE to..
IF the D/S latch doesn't release..there's a grommet on that side also but it doesn't give a straight in access like the P/S does..Jim
