Over the years I pretty much have put an increasingly lighter battery in my '69 every time it needed a replacement. The car is not a DD and does not sit outside on frigid winter nights. As long as it starts at 40* and above, I'm happy.
For the past 3 or 4 years I have had a 16# 365CA/300 CCA $29.95 (Interstate?) battery in my '69. (If and when this battery starts to get lazy, I'll throw it in my lawn tractor and spend another $29.95 for a new piece.) I like to track my car, and I don't like hauling around any more lead ballast than I absolutely have to.
the Walmart battery (Ever Start) actually has a provision for a vent tube,
it is not air tight, but they put some thought into . (next to Red sticker)
I also use the Walmart battery, just get the largest cold cranking amps you can fit.
get a free warranty battery virtually in any city, anywhere. with some open 24hrs.
hard to beat that.
I own a '73 Coupe. The prior owner, Bubba, replaced the original style top post battery for a side post battery and swapped the cable connectors. It is impossible to see or check the battery posts and connections in the battery compartment, and a royal pain to connect my trickle charger to the battery. I plan to go back to the original style top post battery and replace the cables. Don't let someone talk you into this modification.
