Default 1975 Parts Car for a 1974 Restoration--Need Input

Hi Everyone my dad and I are currently in the process of restoring a 1974 coupe and a friend of ours was restoring a 1975 coupe (working on wiring preparing to install the engine and transmission before paint ) and has recently lost interest offering to sell it to us as a parts car without the engine but with the transmission. I am trying to put together a list of what we can use off of the 1975 in our restoration to determine if it is worth buying.

We are doing a frame off restoration and currently working on reassembly of the rear suspension on our 1974. It was an automatic AC car, but one of the previous owners pulled the AC out and we are planning on swapping to a manual transmission. Our friends car is a manual (4 speed Borg Warner) and has all of the factory AC. Although it was a 75 he says it came factory with a big block (the previous owner put a 327 in) . I know as far as the suspension and brakes go it has been rebuilt and the interior is mostly finished. He has rebuilt the headlights, the complete full cowl induction system, and a lot more including t-tops that are in excellent shape. The AC is also in really good shape and has been gone through. I haven't seen the car for several months but am going out there on Saturday to check it out and possibly make a deal.

Any input on what can be used from the 1975 on our 1974 would be greatly appreciated. If there are any questions about either of the cars let me know. Thank you!

Here is our 74 so far:

One of the previous owners took the big block out and put a 327 in (not sure why?) So there is no engine included as our friend wants to keep the 327. I will get the vin on Saturday

Guess I'm not sure what you're asking. Pretty much everything from a 75 will bolt on to a 74. You'll need a lot of parts besides the transmission including the pedal assembly so these parts will come in handy. It all depends on how much he wants for the 75 and how easy it is for you to dispose of the leftovers when you're done.

Looks like you've done a great job on your frame

The only way a Big Block made it's way into a '75 is if some one removed the original 350 and put one in there... only to have someone later remove it to install a 327... Of course a BB would fit, but that's not the point.

As others have said most of the '75 parts will interchange easily with your '74. If the '75 is a complete car and is not in bad shape, it might be more worthwhile to try to keep it together and sell it off whole. Especially so if the frame and the birdcage are solid. Regardless, the more complete it is the easier it will be to sell it, so if you remove any major components, I would swap your '74 parts back on the '75 if at all possible.

Good luck... GUSTO
