Hi, somewhere in past years the door switch on the driver's side (controls interior lights and 'door ajar' light) became bent and inoperable. After I brought it home, I bent it straight and it worked for a bit, but it's now pretty intermittent.
I have a new switch but have a question. Are the wires a press fit onto the end of the 'plunger' part of the switch? If so, any tips on pulling it off or should I just carefully work it off?
I really appreciate the help this forum provides. I know I'll have answers quickly - what a great bunch of fellow gear heads.
There should be three wires to the switch. They operate the alarm, door ajar and courtesy lights. Black, white, and blue. The ends are separate and attached to the end of the wire. They push into the three holes in the picture. Here is also a link to the connectors from Willcox. I had to solder my wires on to the connectors, then they push into the holes and have small tangs that catch on the inside of the plastic that keeps them from pulling back out. All this is from my 72 with alarm. Sorry if it doesn't match up to yours. I'll also attach a wiring diagram.
I took a small flat blade screw driver and pushed the metal prongs out of the old switch and than plugged them into my new switch. The entire process of removing the old switch and installing the new took about 15 minutes.
