Okay the car has been running decent only one issue keeps cropping up okay two issues but I have the parts for the first (new brake calipers for the front).
So occasionally the car will not idol, it will slowly die sometimes not so slowly. I have not worried about it so much because I plan on changing the current carb (Holly 550) back to the original carb (rochester 750). The original carb was looked at an we found a major problem and corrected it so it should work well.
I am thinking that I might have a pressure problem, I pulled out into traffic and I had to get on the gas (okay maybe I did not have to but if you got it use it) and when I got to the next stop light the car dies and will not start. I crank it and crank it and no go I finally floor it and crank it and she starts up but will not maintain an idol. Well I get her home and shut her down pop the hood and remove the air cleaner and gas is still dripping out of the mains on the carb.
So is my pressure coming out of the mechanical fuel pump so high that it is causing an issue with the carb? Maybe. I did not build this car so I do not know the exact engine specs and I really do not want to pull it apart to find out I just want to be able to sit at a stop light and not have the car die.
Okay so check out the pressure anybody think of anything else.

If it was an edelbrock, yes it could be over pressured by a mechanical fuel pump but I doubt it with a holley. If its coming out of the mains your floats could be offf or the springs for the rods could be stuck. The gunk created by ethanol gas from sitting and what it does to a carb is digusting. Rebuilding it it does sound like the answer. So going back the Rochester, since you've figured out its issues, sounds like a good solution
Okay so here is the plan, Next week install the newly re-built carb and a new fuel pump that will allow me to use the hard piping I bought to go from the fuel pump to the carb and its made to put out 6psi so I do not overpressure the carb.
Big week next week, replace carb fuel pump figure I will change the oil while I am down there now that I have a few hundred miles on the engine. Repipe from the fuel pump to carb hard pipe with a new in-line filter.
She is running again regulated the fuel pressure down to 4.5psi and double checked the Edelbrock Performer Carb reset the floats and changed one spring to a heavier spring engine is running much better now I just have to replace the front brake hoses and get that fixed.
