I'm trying to sell my Vette sadly and I was wondering if anyone has any tips they could give me for selling this car for as much and as fast as possible, i'm looking to get atleast $8,500, its a 1978 SAE painted Targa Blue a month ago with brand new tires/brakes/weatherstripping and more. Thank for the help/tips!
Watch the video for top ten C3 buying tips, and cover off the trouble spots with pictures or video. Try and sell it as if you're in the business of selling, ie treat buyers with some respect even if they come off as dicks. They may have money...
And don't look at what others are asking for their similar cars, look at what the one's that sold are selling FOR. It's a market. You may be dreaming with your price, you may be dead on. You need to be honest with your self if you actually want to sell it.

Think like a ad-man. Borrow a Gopro camera (or something similar) and make a video as if you were approaching and then driving the car. Buyers want to see these cars in motion.
I saw your ad in the for sale section and the car looks great. You need to post pictures of the interior, engine, and undercarriage. Can't tell the quality of the paint job in the photo, but I think it's a great deal for someone wanting to get into a C3. The 4 speed is a plus.
Good luck.
Since it's getting towards the tail end of the driving season in many areas of the country, I think appropriate to aggressive pricing will be critical. Otherwise you might end up holding it until spring. Also, don't shy away from eBay. It'll bring out more kooks than Craigslist but it also means international exposure for a pretty reasonable price.
Clean the car. I can tell you how many times I have looked at a car and had to clean the seat out of rags and paper just to sit down. Even photos taken with junk in the seats and floor.
For a '78 with non-standard paint, it had better be in tip-top mechanical condition and have fairly low miles on it to get that much. It won't have to be a complete "cream puff", but it had better operate flawlessly.
Unfortunately, the new paint job won't get you what you want...unless you get a buyer that really, really loves the color and the paint is done really well. Painting a car going up for sale is generally a losing proposition.
Take the best pics you possibly can
When selling my Cobra I went to www.clubcobra.com web site for selling Cobra's
Find taking pictures for dummies study up about taking pictures.
This helped sell my car.
Good luck
your car has a color change .that could hurt the price.advertise in as many places as you can.If you can park it somewhere that has a lot of traffic it will help.
Dont do the circus announcer thing ie " dont miss your opportunity, got 4 trophies at the donut shop" rare 1 of a kind bs who cares
Personally I quit reading ads when I see that; maybe some want to buy a dream I wanna buy a car and just want hard facts
8k for a clean shiny vette may just get it. if you have to dump it then get what you can and move on. Sometimes youll get a few inquiries in a day then none for a month or more. Lower price will attract more inquiries period
Some may not agree but try to list for rock bottom price period to shoo away the flippers, going back and forth I dont have patience for, others do. If youre in a hurry anyway otherwise go fishing some have the temperament for it
Someone will love your car the way it is wether its stock or not
Keywords in your ad if someone is googling help
Having sold a lot of cars over the years I have the following suggestions:
Take lots of great pics, try using the flash even in bright light, it will illuminate details. Better yet-do you have a friend that is a photo hobbyist? See if you can recruit them to do the shoot with their high quality camera and know how. Get a ton of shots-underbody too if you can. As mentioned above get snaps of the trouble areas to show them.
You are selling a car that is a dream, not a necessity. So paint the picture with a scenic location-beach, park, lakeside. Shiny cars parked on green grass look great.
As also mentioned above. Take a vid starting the car and then while driving through the gears.
Take pics of a neatly stowed jack and tools, owners manual, file of receipts. If you have all this in order and neatly presented it shows care and attention. Enthusiasts like to buy cars from other enthusiasts that share an attention to detail.
List everything done simply with bullet points in one section so it is easy to see-not in a long narrative. Skip the hyperbole but mention well recognized brands and vendors for parts/services.
Anything wrong with it, on the to do list? Disclose it-demonstrate your forthrightness about the vehicle. Take pics of the issues as needed.
Price it close to the bone-say a couple hundred more than you would take. This will attract buyers if they see you are realistic. As someone above mentioned, get them out to see it. Once they want it and try to low ball you just stick to your guns or give them the couple hundred off so they can say to their friends they beat you down : )
In my experience if you can get 2-3 people out to see it one will buy it.
A really good presentation with pics and info and disclosures will attract long distance buyers too as they will feel more confident.
Your car is a looker so someone will fall in love with it.
If you can afford to sit on it 4-6 months then you can price it higher and wait for that perfect buyer.
Also, if you have multiple people interested, try to schedule them on the same day half an hour apart. This is helpful as you tie up one afternoon rather than several as some people will be no shows. If you have reasonable demand then they see others showing up and are more motivated to give a deposit. Before anyone jumps me on this if they want to have an inspection or further time I would always accommodate that too if they will give a deposit.
When taking a deposit ask the buyer for the deadline to make the final payment. Add two days then write the receipt that they lose their money after that date. Again, before anyone jumps me, had too many people disappear or give **** and bull stories and not complete. Then you lose your other buyers and have to run ads again, which is a PITA.
If they are having some minor issue performing, but contact you and act in good faith you can always refund or extend at your discretion. At least their deposit will pay for your wasted time a bit and for new ads.
Finally-if you are receiving cash or a money order, meet them at your bank, so a money order can be verified (ask your bank to call the issuing bank) and cash counted and checked and your safety ensured as you can dump the money in your account on the spot and avoid being a robbery target.
Announcing to the world that you spent $700 on your Corvette's paint job will not help you one bit.
Anyone who sees that will devalue the car in their mind.
You said you want to sell fast? 1. eBay. 2. Auction.
Well good thing I don't plan on selling on the forums lol and just because I paid $700 doesn't mean its a bad paint job, and honestly I don't care what anyone thinks about what I spent on my project because if they see it in person they wouldnt even believe it. Also what kind of auction are you talking? An ebay auction or like an actual car auction haha
