Took my seats out yesterday for some painting and cleaning. Took off the straps that lock the backs. After putting everything back together neither seat back will latch. The height adjustments are still the same so not sure what happened. Removed straps and slid them in and they would latch but the buttons don't look right, not out as far as they were. Tried searching but didn't find an answer. Sure its something simple.
Thanks,
Hi b,
If you remove the fiberglass panel on the back side of the upper seat (2 screws at the bottom, 2 hidden clips at the top… slide the panel down to release it) you can then easily open the rear 'seam' in the seat cover which will expose the entire latching mechanism.
You should the be able to raise and lower the seat back and see why it's not locking in the up position.
The Assembly Instruction Manual would be a help here since it details the installation of the locking mechanism.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
I believe this is the typical appearance at the bottom.
Thanks Alan, tried pulling the seat backs down thinking that was the way it worked. It didn't come right off so didn't try too hard thinking I might break something. Will give it another ago, thanks
Couple of questions
What year is the car?
Were there any shims under where the strap mounts to the bottom?
Stupid question but any chance you put them back on the wrong way (upside down as it were)? If you look at Alans pic, the bar that comes through the bracket is closer to the rear of the seat. It'll bolt on the other way around but the strap might not fully engage the lock since it's being curved away instead on into it
If you removed the bezel around the release push-button, it's possible some of the fabric or foam got pushed into the release mechanism and might be interfering with the button coming all the way back (out) and grabbing the latch strap.
maybe
