I did this for a friend of mine last year on his 74.
Its easy. The mirror should come with a template to show
you where to drill the holes in the fiberglass. Once drilled, we popped in the 2 rubber well nuts that came with it and then screwed the metal mirror mount to them.
Go easy with the drill, don't let it "walk" up the door.

Here is a picture of the right side mirror I installed on my 73 last summer. Follow all the advice given in the previous posts and it will come out nice. I suggest measuring the location of the left side mirror and compare it to what the right side template indicates. You might want to adjust it slightly so both mirrors look to be in the same position relative to the window, when viewed from the front/back of the car.
I bought the made in USA mirror (not date coded) from Willcox. I am very happy with it.
