Default Help with pricing

I had an inquiry the other day about my '71 LS5 Convertible with 55,382 miles. I'm trying to establish an asking price and go from there. I've owned the car for 41 years, I purchased the car from the original owner. It's a 4 speed with A/C, power steering, tilt/telescopic steering wheel, AM/FM radio. The original owner purchased the hard top, I think it's a 1969.
Original paint (except hard top), soft top, interior, never smoked in, garage kept. Original engine, transmission, differential. I replaced the fuel tank, fuel pump, alternator, power steering pump, compressor (kept the old one), new DeWitts radiator (kept the old one), complete new exhaust system.

What's a realistic asking price?

1971 Poster, Dealer Brochure, Owners manual, Protecto Plate, Build Sheet, Florida Vehicle safety inspections from '72 thru '80, they quit in '81.

Drivers side body mount behind kick panel.

Under sill plate.

Passenger side body mount behind kick panel.

Under sill plate.

A LS5 vert 4 speed with ac ,original engine the factory docs you have and some of the current prices of other LS5's I believe an asking price of low to mid 50k is not out of line.

Hi 71,
I really don't follow bb cars but jr certainly does.
Before I read his post I was thinking low $50s.
Please take this as it's intended…. green isn't on everyone's list of favorite colors so it may take a bit of time for the new owner to come along, BUT, when he sees it he'll LOVE it!!!!
Regards,
Alan

Is that the original driver's side door trim panel? If so, it's in beautiful condition!!!!!

If the car is honestly in "Excellent" condition, low $50s would not be out of line according to Hagerty. "Good averages around $40K.

https://www.hagerty.com/apps/valuati...vette?id=84764

Though some disagree I put more faith in Hagerty than opinions driven by blips from TV auctions or other anecdotal evidence. In this case, the price suggested is within reason.

Thanks Alan, yes, all of the interior is original except for the parking brake handle plastic slide. Yes, I know what you mean about green and my car has plenty of green.

Hi 71,
I'm not sure…. is there even a way to tell an original slide from one that's been replaced?
Regards,
Alan

Curious what you're thinking price wise… p.m. maybe?
Regards,
Alan

Maybe a split on the side of the opening. Mine went on in one piece without cutting the side. I think the warm Florida weather helped.

PM sent.

that has definitely got 70s written all over it, sure wish I had the coin!

Dig dark green and blue interiors

As said the buyer who doesnt want the proverbial red or blue vette will be all over yours
BB, vert 4 spd AC all the good stuff....and probably wont see another one at cruise night the same color combo..ever.

Had a citrus (?) green/green 70 non split bumper Z/28 not many dug it (as it was an oddball) except me...and the buyer who paid top buck for it.
ugly duckling maybe but it was the only one around like it at the time

Considering the mileage, originality, options and apparent condition, were it mine, I would certainly start in the mid 50's price range.

Good luck... GUSTO

Nice Car... I would add extra 10% for the longevity of your ownership and i think hagerty does not give enough of a bump for convertible with A/C. another 10% for the doc.. and add another 10% if you can fish for just the right buyer and in no hurry to sell.
definitely a BG top tier survivor candidate. someone will pay big bucks for that. you will easily get a return on your investment if you refurbish those original parts you mentioned and install them.

I would go 60+ if you can sit back and wait for that right buyer. you owe it to yourself to get as much as you can for it.

Interested in seeing where this ends up. It's probably in the top 5% of all LS5's for sale though I'm not so sure it will fetch above mid 50's. I'd give it more than others based on longevity of ownership, documentation, traceable history, etc. Most LS5's I'd expect to sell for far less, typically mid to upper 30's. Some feel Hagerty places too much value. To hit mid 50's it needs to be in showroom condition. Of course this is an average, there are always some which fall above or below. Looks like it may appeal most to someone looking for a survivor vs restored. Best of luck with the sale.

If you expose it well and it sells right away, you will know then that you asked too little. Very few original drivers have going for them what yours does. Correct the things you can and aim high...you can always lower the price. Restored and modified cars are becoming more common, original cars are becoming more rare...every day.

A 70-72 LS5 with the original engine, and options and docs like yours and original condition, should bring the 50 to mid 50k mark as I posted earlier.I follow prices and have looked at many LS5's over the years and have seen many Junks sell for big money just because they liked the color and overlooked everything else.Your 71 454 is one of the nicest ones currently available and should be priced that way.

I say, just add a zero to the end of the original sticker price!
