Default 68 heater control

Hi all,

I'm trying to recreate a working heating system in a 68 better that has had the system stripped out.

I've got a service manual and a Haynes guide, but neither appears to have an end to end diagram/schematic of the components required.

Added to this, by looking at ecklers and other suppliers, it seems that the 68 heater control system was different to the later systems? How?

What do I need to get a 68 heater control working? Is it a fan switch and 2 cables, or more?

Many thanks for any guidance!

Dave

Hi Dave,
It's a bit difficult to answer without knowing just what parts of the system you have and what might be missing.
Inside the hater box attached to the interior side of the firewall is the heater core to supply the heat and 2 doors that are operated by the heater/defroster control.
The right side wheel on the controller determines if the system produces hot or cold air by moving a door in the heater box with a cable.
The left side wheel of the controller determines if the flow of air (either hot or cold) is at your feet (heater), at the windshield (defroster), or both, by use of vacuum pot mounted on the heater box..
The switch of course controls the fan to furnish the air supply.
Does that help?
Regards,
Alan

Yes, thanks... I think the confusion is around something I saw on one of the parts websites which suggested that the 68 heater control did not have vacuum valves, whereas all the later ones clearly did... Perhaps it was wrong?

Hi Dave,
I believe the 68 uses a vacuum system for the air delivery function.

Alan

68's Without air conditioning do not have any vacuum controls for the heater assembly. Only 68's with air conditioning had vacuum operated controls. Lou.
