Wrapping spliced wires in electrical tape and not soldering them. Its fine for awhile, but eventually it will fall apart. While not technically a mistake using shrink tubes looks cleaner and typically holds together longer.

At least they wrapped them in tape... my speaker wires were just twisted together and left bare.
Bubba installed this beautiful Neon spoiler on the back of my C3. He didn't put too much effort into it, the WOOD SCREWS he used were pretty easy to remove. Of course, this is the same Bubba who also shaved the door locks and handles... and didn't install poppers.
Qualified mechanic (I assume) bubba did this before I bought my car:
1) Tuned up the car (good job bubba)
2) Looked at the iginition shielding that he previously removed, and said (in his best bubba hillbilly voice) : What the hell is this thang?
3) Discards it because it is extra stuff not needed and it would take an extra 10 minutes to put it back on.
I really do not know what happened to it but the owner had the car serviced including a tune up before I bought it so I assume this was the story. Now I either have to find an original one or pay for a reproduction at almost $300.00 clams.

Or one of my personal favorites, tying the radio into the "hot" wire instead of the 12v ignition wire, so that it can kill your battery resulting in a call to Bubba's towing for a jump.
