Hey guys I got a 1969 corvette stingray. Car says it's a 427 400hp but the carb has been switched before I bought it. Is there a definite way I can check to know if the car originally came with a six pack or not. I've pulled numbers off the car and Google as much as I could but I've gotten alot of different answers. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Only way to know for sure is if you have documentation, the tank sheet, invoice, maybe the Protect-O-Plate. Another possibility could be the build code on the engine block, not sure how much info that provide. Assuming it's the original block.

Hello Nate,
What specific "numbers" did you pull? ...
If you believe a picture is worth a thousand words ...
Pictures of ...
1. Tachometer
2. VIN plate(located driver side windshield)
3. engine pad(located passenger side front where head & block meet.
4. engine bay - from driver & passenger side
5. fuel lines(from fuel pump or behind rear passenger tire)
6. console plate
...2. VIN plate(located driver side windshield)...6. console plate...
Nice to know, but not necessary. There is no option information in the 69 VIN. The console plate is probably the last item to attempt to use for verification. The plates are too easy to change.
Hi Nate,
WELCOME!
First Post!!!!
69, 427 car! NICE!!!!
Probably the best clue you could uncover would be L's #3, in his list above.
You'll be looking for a suffix code of LQ (400 hp ,4-speed) or LN (400hp, turbo hyda-matic). Both engines had tri-power. (When I see 'six-pack' the only thing that comes to mind is mopar.)
Hopefully the pad and it's stamps are still in good condition!
Regards,
Alan
Here's a typical pad with the head removed. LR indicates a 435hp, 4-speed car.

And you're 100% correct. The VIN plate will only determine if the block may be original to the car, assuming there may be numbers on the pad. And I agree, while the console plate is easy to change, I've seen some pretty obvious changed plates. In all, the more pictures, the better to ascertain. Put another way ... more pictures don't hurt, especially when you're given very little to begin ...
