Default I Feel So Dumb

Haven't posted on here in a while, so I thought I'd share something small.

I bought my '74 back in 2002. Over the past 14 years, I've struggled with an intermittent problem with starter heat soak. In the warm months I'm always nervous to go on long drives that don't end up with me back at my house. I put a heat reflective wrap on the starter for a few years that temporarily fixed the problem, but it eventually disintegrated and the problem started up again.

I read a lot of threads on starter heat soak over the years, various theories on what causes it, but never got around to actually doing something about the problem.

This past weekend, I bought a mini starter from DB Electrical for around $50, and installed it... in about 30 minutes. Two bolts.

14 years of being nervous to enjoy my car, fixed in 30 minutes for $50.

I use the same starter after trying to get a Powermaster to work all the time.

I did add a heat shield as well.

When I bought my '77 many years ago I struggled with what I thought was starter heat soak problem. Could never start the car hot, when it cooled it would start. One day I tried jumping it - while hot - off another battery and it started. Turned out my battery was marginal. New battery fixed the problem for good.

How long have you been using this starter, and are you having any problems?
