The antenna on my 72 vert is loose and wobbly. I tried tightening it on top and that seemed to help but then it just got loose again. I do not see anything on the underside that pulls it to the body, so it just wobbles loosely. It seems that there should be a ring or something on the underside that the topside nut or bolt tightens up to. Also, if there is supposed to be a ring or something on the underside, how would I install it? It seems to be very difficult to reach this area.
Hi GJ,
Here are some photos of the original antenna from both the top and underside.
Might help to to see what you have and what might be missing.
Reaching up there is almost impossible without at least dropping the left side muffler.

Alan
Note the bracket attached to the plate is notched to prevent the connector on the end of the antenna cable from turning.
Same problem with my 79. See the part under the fender in Alan's photo? The one under the large plate. That part I found at Corvette pacifica 83 on ebay. Hopefully that part will support the portion above the fender and allow you to tighten the nut.
I bought a POWER ANTENNA as plan B but hope not to use it.
I will let u know if the part works.

HAHA! WOW. That explains a lot! I was looking under there and saw this big rectangular piece of aluminum hanging free, and I was think'ng - "omigosh, what now. Well, I'll get to that after the antenna." Now I know what it is and should be able to fix it. Thanks Alan. You have come through once again!
Hi GJ,
Many good car covers come with a grommet for the antenna.
I take the antenna mast off when I put the cover on. (no tools)
I guess how much of a nuisance it might be depends on how often you put the cover on and off?

Alan

Really its not. The antenna hole gives you a point of reference when putting a cover on by yourself. Slip the antenna in the hole as it will hold it place when you pull it over the front & back.
Hope it's ok to add to this post. I thought that if I purchased the part under the fender Alan shows in his picture I would be able to tighten the antenna and make it stable. As you see in my picture my antenna lead is different than what Alan has on his car.
Apparently my car originally had a power antenna. Any suggestions what my options are now. Don't see a harness for the power antenna but looks like the brackets are there.
