All, I have had fiberglass covers on my 69 since adding the exhaust. I happened to have come across a set of original side pipe covers for $100 that needed to be rechromed. I have the covers at the chrome shop now. Both of the insulators are in well used condition. Both will need fiberglass repairs. One is worse that the other. Before spending money to repair, does anyone know where I can find replacements for these? Also looking for any tech info on them as I see all kinds of attachment parts for these guys. thanks in advance for your help. Steve
Hi Steve,
There is only one company manufacturing the chrome shields and fiberglass insulators.
Paragon Corvette Reproductions.
The insulators are available separately.
I caution you to be sitting down when you look for their price.
As far as 'attachment parts' for the pipes and covers; there's a large bracket for the covers near their front and a small s-shaped bracket near the cover's rear end. Each pipe/muffler is supported by a stove bolt to the frame using 2 rubber cushions on a bracket welded to near the end of the muffler.
Regards,
Alan
I see used insulators for sale occasionally but they generally appear to be from slightly to seriously damaged.
