Pull the weatherstripping out of the A Pillar, you'll see a few screws underneath it that holds the outer most trim piece. Unscrew them and pop them off, and the top piece will be released at the edges. It's held in with clips, you should be able to just pop it out of the clips. At least that's how it works on my '81.
Be careful if you are inclined to insert a screw driver or putty knife between the trim and windshield. Lift the tool straight up rather than twisting it. Twisting will increase the chances of chipping the corner of the glass. Those corner chips typically result in a cracked windshield.
Hi K,
It's been described pretty well.
After you pull the weatherstrip out of the ss retainer you'll see screws that hold the retainer to the windshield pillar which need to come out first.
Then the weatherstrip retainer can be removed and the screws that hold the ss reveal molding in place can be removed.
Remove the reveal molding.
The long thin piece of header trim right at the windshield is held in place by 9 clips typically. The long thing piece of trim has 9 tabs on it's upper rear side that slip into those clips.
People use various tools to pry the long thin piece free at each tab. I like using a stiff plastic paint scraper.
IF you're not replacing the windshield you have to be VERY CAREFUL as AH said because if you even nick the edge of the glass a tiny bit it usually turns into a crack.
Are you going to be removing the large piece of ss windshield header trim?
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
