Stan, Happy birthday Corps! I think a quote from the Devil Dog considered by many the toughest Marine who ever wore the globe and anchor, General Lewis B. Chesty Puller is in order. "All right, they're on our left, they're on our right, they're in front of us, they're behind us...they can't get away this time." During a Battalion inspection, he once said, "take me to the brig, I want to see the real Marines."
And to all who served in the military, the very best of life for you. November 11 is Veterans Day.

Reason: left out important information
Thanks all!
I spent the day @ Giovanni's Pizza (San Diego) with a room full of former Marines, having a birthday lunch together. Our oldest Marine was 94 years old, and he wore his dress blues!! Our youngest was 31, and he belonged to 4th Tanks across the way from MCAS Miramar. I enjoy this event every year, and drive across 5 states to be there and help the committee make the event successful (and have a buttload of fun doing it).
Skybolt,
Thank him in advance from me.
I did the delayed entry program in June of 1985 and shipped
on September,1985. Parris Island is hotter than hell in the summer.
It sure grew me up.
I walked 44 miles in 2 days in Okinawa carrying an M-60 in 1988.
I still think that was my most challenging event in my life.
Well 29 years of marriage and two kids ranks a close 2nd

I looked for the tavern its under the Ben Franklin Bridge today.
It was located in its day on Dock St.
Dock St was where the ships unloaded next to the Delaware River.

So much for history

What ever it takes, be there when he graduates boot camp. It is a serious goose bump inspiring event. You sound like a Dad who will indeed be there. There is hope for this nation as long as young men and women love America enough to enlist and carry the Flag where ever it's needed. Thank him for us, and thank you for raising a great son.
