Hi m,
I'm really not too familiar with bb valve covers but they seem to fit the description of 70 covers:
flash chrome plating
visible dripper spot welds
uniformly shaped indentation for p/b booster clearance
Oil fill on passenger's side cover
tall spark plug wire bracket on each
short spark plug bracket on each
remains of a Tonawanda decal
???
Regards,
Alan

Allan they are pre 68 covers as there is no clip holder for the water temp sender. 66 Chevelle 396/360 and 396/375 used covers like this with a small dent on the drivers side. 67 had a bigger dent. but 66 had no sticker.

How much?

Here are the clips on drivers side. I loved to see that Tonawanda sticker back in the day!
So what are they from?

the 68+ covers had a clip on the bottom of the drivers side for the temp sender wire, not the top like 65-67 covers

Hi,
They still appear to my eye to be what's described and shown as typical 70 bb covers in the new NCRS 70-72 TIM&JG.
Regards,
Alan

I have the same covers on my 68 427 coupe with AC.
My car was assembled in June.
It went back for a ce block at some point.
My uneducated guess was those clips were for the solenoid wire.
AC cars had a solenoid to advance the idle.
The wire comes out of the fuse box and runs up along the back of the
block.
Although my quadrajet and thee solenoid are long gone the wire is still
present.
Again just a guess.

I am no expert on valve covers, in fact I hardly know much about them at all, but they do look like my 69s also. The temp sending unit is wired from the alternator. Did they need to run the wire through any clips on the valve cover? I am trying to find some good pictures of an unrestored car. My cars do not have the clips on the lower driver side. Even my unrestored roadster doesnt have clips but its possible and likely the valve covers have been removed during its life and not put back on correctly. I am not able to check my AIM at the moment.

Still so much I don't know. These type threads are very interesting to me.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Ed427,
you'll find those 2 clips if installed properly run along the intake side on the drivers side.

Hello Marshall,
Neither my 69s have clips on the intake side of the drivers side but they both have this clip in the picture below on the exhuast side about 3 inches away from the temp sender using my very high tech screw driver as a pointer....This is from the unrestored 69 roadster.
