Battery Gauge?

The battery gauge on my 72 basically reads 0+. Is this normal? I have had no trouble with the battery discharging (so far) but I cannot tell if this gauge is working or not since there are no numerals like alternator gauges on newer cars. The manual is vague, but it shows the gauge reading 0.

I am thinking a reading of 0 may be normal?

Turn your headlights on, with the car off, ignition on, and see if it goes to -numbers. It should. If not, it's broken, or disconnected?
I changed mine to a volt meter, I have a 1 wire 125 amp alternator now.
