Default Hello AGAIN

Hi.

I am 75 & not used to working in this computer environment, however, I retired after 45 years in the Auto Repair business ( back when I was called a MECHANIC ).
I have owned & restored 9 Vettes over the years.
I need some guidance on the Paint colors of a 73 Stingray Rear Deck Lid. Several manuals are confusing as to " applying the BODY COLOR for ALL of the LID", or natural for Latches, or Black for Latches.

Any help is appreciated.

Bob

P/S Hope this gets out !

Agree with Ben! A lot of info. in the C3 area, or possibly the general Paint area located lower on the forum page.

Moving this to the C3 General section for better response. If that doesn't get the response you need, consider getting this moved to the Paint/Body section of the forum.

Hi Bobo,
Nice to see that you are restoring a 73, and a convertible too! I'm not sure what manuals you were looking at but the NCRS 73-74 Judging Manual states that the underside of the deck lid should be painted the same as the body color. But it shouldn't be as shiny. The quality wasn't the same underneath. The deck lid release levers and lock assemblies were also painted body color. The release cable should be natural. The rubber bumper should be natural black and so should the bumper bracket, rear bow lock assemblies and the control rods.
What color is it? Is it a 4 speed? What motor?
Hope this helps
Jimmy

Hi Bob,
I'll say welcome too!
Jimmy did a nice job replying to your question!
It's not always easy to understand just what parts were on the body (deck lid) when it was painted and therefore what parts typically had exterior color on them and what parts didn't. Hood hinges are another puzzle because they got body color AND blackout.
Restored NINE Corvettes!!!! And you're still sane enough to be doing another????
Regards,
Alan

Default Restoration

Back in the day when Cash was king, & credit was something that the Grocer gave you, any job was acceptable.

I recall doing the Bottom end on a 1954 Vette.

The confusion I have with the 73 Ray is with comments in some in the after market parts books.

I might wander to the Library for a 73 Shop Manual. Might find better pics.

Nice communicating with you.

Bob

I believe the deck lid was attached to the body before painting so hinges and springs ETC would be painted body color but the latch cables ETC was not attached till later & was not painted.
WELCOME TO THE FOURM from a 72 year old fellow member.

Bob,
Here is a pic of my 73 deck lid. Sorry for poor quality, it was hard to get a better photo in the garage. Please note that some of the paint is starting to come off the hinges and bow latches. But I wanted to leave things that way for now. I can also sympathize with you getting some conflicting views from various vendor catalogs. I had this problem when I was getting started on my 73. Many not all vendors include the 73 in with 70-72 for some parts etc. However, you'll find that there are quite a few unique to the 73 only parts as you continue on with your project. But, with all your past experience I'm sure you are well aware of this.
Hope this helps, let me know if I can help in the future.
Regards,
Jimmy
