Default Front bumper guards

Going to have my front air dam fiberglass worked on tomorrow and attempted to remove the front bumper guards to give them some room to do the work.
They were original and a little rough but the lower bolt broke on the passenger side. Anyone know what size nuts went on the guards? and did they have circular washers?

Both top nuts were 5/8. the driver side lower was 11/16 and the passenger lower was 3/4 inch(broke).
Also, how good are the aftermarket replacements on these ?
thanks

Holy smokes. That was my first attempt at using a tablet to type out a post.
Edited it now to make it a little more coherent.
Lesson learned, sorry about that.

Hi Jim,
I'm not sure what bolt and nut you're asking about.
This one?
Maybe the 69 bumper guard mount bolt is different than the 70-72?
ADDED: Looking at my parts book it appears both the upper and lower bolts for the bumper guards were originally 7/16"-14 x 1-1/4" for 68-72 bumpers.
Regards,
Alan

Yes those are the lower ones. Wow if they were all 7/16th than all of mine were wrong.
When I was giving the sizes out I meant what size socket I had to use to remove them. I may have not made that clear. But seeing how I had to use 3 sockets for the four nuts on the guards, I was sure something wasn't right.

Thanks Alan for pictures. Upon further review, I am going to have to go home and check my
Bumperettes. For some reason I thought the bolts were mounted in the bumperette and a nut screwed over them. But it looks like, their are holes on the bumperettes that a bolts screws into.
If this is the case, I may be able to save mine. Ill be checking as soon as I come home.
The plot thickens for sure.

Hi x,
That's why I first asked about 68-69 bumper guards being mounted in a slightly different way than the 70-72 that I'm more familiar with.
I'll be interested to hear what you discover.
Regards,
Alan

On 70-72 guards the nuts are welded into the guards before they're plated.

Here's the upper bolt.

My guard tops have holes to thread a bolt into. like what I expected for all 4 from what I've never seen and heard .
MY bottoms on both have a thread coming out of the guard that you put a nut on.
Now the drivers idea one looks legit but the passenger side one that broke looks like maybe it was spot welded in.
When I shake the passenger side one, I can hear a rattle inside that may have been the welded nut head inside of the guard which I think you guys mentioned.
Should there be a Gm parts number on these? they are pretty dirty and old but the numbers are not jumping out at me. it makes me wonder if these had broke on the bottom before and had been fixed or they are old replacements .
here is a picture of bottom part of guards.

Hi x,
What you describe and show certainly appears to be a repair due to rusty bolts.
I really believe the nuts for those bolts were welded into the guards before they were plated.
I'd think getting the threaded parts of the nuts plated would be pretty difficult which would lead to the real possibility of rust.
Regards,
Alan

Looks like it's aftermarket replacements for me. at least I can feel better about it now. these aren't worth replating.
