I have an 80 that the PO installed a 700R4 into. Unfortunately some of the installation included some, shall we say "reworked" or "engineered" parts. Does anyone have any pictures of the bracket that bolts to the trans and holds the cable? Or know where I can purchase a new one?
Most of the aftermarket auto trans suppliers also sell the brackets needed for a conversion. All that is required is that the end of that restrained cable is the proper distance from the shift shaft. The oil pan mounting holes are in different places on the original trans; so swapping over the bracket from the old trans will NOT be correct for the new one.
But, the original bracket can have new holes drilled for the new pan and still work OK...if those mounting holes are in the RIGHT place.
If the shift indicator is lined up properly for the trans ranges, then the bracket and adjustment must be pretty good. BTW, you will NOT have a position for LO range with that trans swap, unless you modify the shift detent plate (under your shift console) or buy the proper one for an O/D transmission.
