Default 1972 vin decode

I am looking at a 1972 and the vin on windshield pillar is

1Z67G2S524XXX

Is anybody familiar with the G for the engine code.
I am familiar with the rest of the nbrs but that G has
me stumped
Any help appreciated..

That is weird because my restoration guide shows the vin with a K in that position. Is your 72 a convertible or a coupe?

The "6" is a convertible but I have only seen "K", "L", and "W" codes for engines. "G" is new to me. Can you see the engine pad codes and do they match?

That's what I thought, but the restoration guide showed a 3 in place of the 6.

The only codes that I came up with are K=350-cid V8 and W-LS5 454-cid with duel exhaust . There is no G . Probably a mistake when title was issued if it is just looking on the title but if you are looking at the metal VIN on the car then something looks tampered.

The L is the LT1 255hp engine. K is the 200hp base. W is the 454 270hp.

Corvette Black Book shows 3rd digit (3 for coupe and 6 for convertible) 5th digit (K is base 350 cubic iinches 200 hp, L is high performance 350 cubic inches 255 hp and W LS5 454 cubic inch 270 hp)

Do you have a picture or the VIN?

Jim

Post a picture of the VIN tag.

Also, check and see if the mylar sticker is still in the driver's door opening area. Check that number against the VIN tag number.

FWIW: 67 is the body code for convertibles; 37 for coupes.

Mike, any idea what might be going on with that "G" in the engine position? A first for me. David

The best way to get help is to post a picture of the VIN tag. Cover the last four digits is that is a concern for you.

Seeing what you have is the best way to answer your question.
