I see a lot of posts saying people have smelly gas in their garage. This is no joke and very serious. Back in 2009 I had a 72 with the same problem. I disconnected the gas line one night to fix and left it like that. You wouldn't believe what happened next! While we were sleeping the frig switched on....the gas and air EXPLODED through the roof, blew the walls out and the windows. We were in the house and believe it or not my Mother, Wife and me got out safe!

We lost everything we ever owned including two cars and all possessions! We had to rebuild our life and my wife suffers from PTSD today. I beg everyone, please take this seriously! I like to remind everyone once in a while.

Good post! My wife complained of gasoline fumes in our garage about the same time expert Forum members were advising us to replace old rubber brake and fuel lines.

She was right/Forum members were right......Rookie me...........the '68 tank rubber hose section on my project-car was weeping gasoline onto the floor!

I just fired up my car this weekend with the hood open and happened to notice gas shooting all over the engine, blown by the fan. Who knows how long has been leaking, I thought the gas smell was from just running rich, could have ignited at any time. Was leaking at bottom of fuel filter, blowing backward onto valve cover and exhaust manifold. Tried multiple times to clean and refit the filter but kept leaking. Finally removed and pressurized the filter with water and traced leak to the bottom of the filter housing itself, not the fitting (I had intially checked filter with gas but did not apply pressure and did not leak). Ordered a new filter, plugged the line with a rubber tire plug and disconnected battery. Wish I hadn't read this post...
