Hi Ed,
FIRST POST!!!!
Merry Christmas!
The tank sheet was typically glued to the top of the gas tank.
If you look through the gas door opening with a flash light (pushing down on the the rubber drain boot) you can sometimes see if it's still there.
Look to the right and the left.
IF you see it don't be tempted to try to get it out. The sheet is very fragile and trying to remove it without dropping the tank from the chassis isn't a good idea.
Sometimes an additional copy was tucked into the dashboard between the tachometer and speedometer or above the radio.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
The build sheet on my 69 is located on the drivers side of the gas tank and is visible by pushing down on the rubber drain boot as Alan describes. There is no way to get it off without dropping the tank but it's there and is easy to see.
The assembly line sheets can be anywhere. The more of a virgin the car is the more likely 1 or more sheets will be found. I have found sheets in doors, seats, dash, under carpets, headliners, fuel tanks, and spare tires so happy hunting.
In various cars over the years working in dealership service departments. I asked about the saving them the more senior techs said not worry about them. There were multiple sheets used as car came down assembly line. The line workers could shove them anywhere. Didn't find them as often when vin was barcoded in the early nineties.
