Does anyone know if there is a difference in the FIT between a 75 carpet and 77 carpet?
The reason I ask is I want loop carpeting (not cut pile) for my 77 which is not available and given the "one year only" items for the 77, I didn't want to risk a purchase with asking.
I have searched and can't find anything to give me a green light or a red light.
Any info would great!!
Cheers and Happy New Year.

I put 80/20 loop in my 77. Talk to Ernie at Willcox Corvette. Tell him what you want to do and I'll bet he can help you. He helped me sort it out.
Love the loop, much nicer than cut pile.
Good luck with you project.

I believe 75 carpet will work just fine. Do check that your rubber floor mats nubs on the back are not going to "fuzz" the new 80/20 as mine did. Had to replace the front sections again after this happened to me. The grippy rubber nubs somehow really fuzzed up the carpet from scooting/sliding around. I took a buffer with sanding disc and ground the nibs/nubs off the back of my mats. Also, use caution when trimming drivers side area on left console side next to seat...this area has a higher visibility exposed carpet area there and requires you leave more carpet in place. Careful use of heat gun can help get stubborn areas to submit to shapes. Your old carpet if in good condition can be used as a template for trimming new carpet, take your time, use new blades in box cutter. Make flaps to cover front bolts on seats rather than making a hole. Keep a close eye on the "whole I'm at it" virus that can strike at any time!!

Thanks a bunch for that. AllVettes - I'll give him a call and see what he can do. All that info is much appreciated. Cheers.

You can also write to them here on the forum. Ernie is very good about monitoring the forum. Having said that however, it is New Year's Eve and that may delay him for a couple of days, just saying. When I look back on the cars I have worked on I can honestly say I have enjoyed putting in new carpeting the most. Patience is the theme to a good job, that and warmth. Putting a cold carpet into a cold car makes it nearly impossible to get a good installation. Warm carpet is the key to success in my opinion. I always get the carpet warm, usually laying it in the sun for an hour before starting the install or putting it indoors to warm it up before beginning. Anyway, enjoy the fun.

Maybe. The 75 underbody is fiberglass, essentially the same as the 68-74 cars. The 77 front underbody is steel. There could be slight differences. Earlier front carpets are cut to cover the sides of the tranny hump; 77s have console panels for this purpose.

I was looking at that but I figured it didn't matter given that the 77 console side panels and the earlier console "complete with side covers" appear to pretty much cover the console the same and overlap the floor carpet.
77-82 used one console panel that mounted on each side as opposed to a molded console that did the same thing and draped over the carpet from earlier models. From what I can tell, my current 77 carpet only slips under the side panel by about an inch or so.
I'll check with Ernie at Willcox though. Sounds like he's been down this road before.
If you have a steel floorboard, give it a good coat of Rustoleum paint before you lay the carpet down. If it is very rusty, you might want to use the 'rust converter' stuff first.

I agree. if you are doing it, do it so you don't have to revisit it for a long time.
The 1977 front carpets are a one off... They have the 1975-1977 style lower floor boards but they had carpet on the kick panels where the 1975-1976 did not. There are other difference in the hump as well.
But, I'm pretty sure we can order you 80/20 loop carpet for a 1977 but to make sure you might give Tommy a call tomorrow at 800-588-3883.
