I hang around the C-7 forum because I have a 2017 vert. But today I was out having my morning coffee and the waitress ask if I wanted to buy a 82 stingray, she said its been sitting in the garage for 10 or 15 years and needs a fuel pump and a paint job. I dont have a clue what it would be worth plus its located in Cleveland, Tn. and I live in leesburg fl. She said the headlights still work, I guess the sister who has the car needs the money more then the car. It may be on craigslist in that town IDK I'm just now looking into it. But if anyone is looking for a 82 it may be worth looking into.

There's no such thing as an 1982 Stingray: Sting Ray 1963–1967, Stingray 1969–1976 & 2014+.

While gm dropped the stingray script in 77 many people still will call later c3s stingray...some do get upset over it I couldn't care less...now to your actual question,
What's it worth depends, sitting that long it will need many repairs it might have rust which can really turn a c3 into a parts car quickly...might be a 2k car might be 5-7k but we do not have anywhere near enough info to guess at it very well.
Stingray script would look too dated on the later C3s. IMO they should have let it go when they lost the chrome bumpers or updated it to match the refined look of the rubber bumper cars. To me Its looks the best when coupled with the chrome bumpers.
Something to think about: 1980 was the only year for the L82 fender badge and not all the L82 year models had hood l82 badges. So is the L82 without the badge still a L82?....I should be banned for starting this up again.

I never said who did or didn't take issue with people who call later c3s stingrays...just to me it's not worth getting upset over....In this case doesn't sound like someone pulling wool just someone unsavvy with c3 trivia.
I agree that the stringray emblem should have been dropped but to me it should have been dropped in 68 with the new model style which should have gotten it's own name...like oh perhaps mako shark the show car it was styled after.
The cat asked about the cars value which was what I was trying to help with but I can't I offer much with almost zero info on the car,

As soon as I saw the title to the OP's post, I knew the silly "Stingray" controversy would take his post off topic. I just didn't realize it would start in the very first response to his post!
I think flounder or maybe jellyfish would have been a good fit for my cars performance when I first got her home.
Though grossly under powered, I feel the 1980-82 Corvette is the most beautiful ever produced. One of these model years converted to an LS1 with a 6-speed manual is my dream car.

I really wasn't attempting to be controversial. I simply wouldn't want him getting burned thinking he was purchasing something that he wasn't.
To get an idea you can look at the "sold" listings on E-Bay, NADA price guide, etc.
Must provide a very descriptive/accurate condition in it's present state, with pics ideally. Frame/bird cage rust can squash any value in a hurry.
Call it a Stingray, POS., baboon..it doesn't matter, we know it's a '82 C3 Corvette.
Good luck if you decide to buy it, '82's have a nice look to them.

I like them owned 2 81s put over 100k on one but Convertible was a must so I grabbed my 69 but almost bought a 75 convertible with 80 front rear bumpers and sweet 502

I have a '15 Camaro SS convertible Commemorative Edition. It's my first convertible & I absolutely love it.
I really want a Vette with clear roof panel(s). The dilemma is that I dream of the styling of the 1980-82, but the performance is a downer. Unfortunately, having one converted is out of my reach & I'm not mechanically inclined to do it myself.
The 1996 C4 is great on performance & price, but the styling is relatively bland. The C5 generation has the styling & performance, but it's sorta pricey.
Decisions, decisions...

Around 88 when my first 81 hit 100k miles I had it restored...did some work hired some out my nightclub was doing good in those days so I had funds but little free time...anyway I had a 400 plus hp small block dropped in and tweaks for it all to work well...then got nuts put an ecklers wide body kit on it...super sweet but took a lot of the fun out that I over built it...but point is you can have a mean late c3...I had a c4 hated it...c5 yawn...I dig the c3s
And once in a while a convertible pops up that is an 80-82 or has the bumpers to fake it and some are stunning but not too pricey

It would definitely be sweet to have a fuel injected 300HP '80-'82.
Why did you hate the C4? What made the C5 boring for you?

I'm a jerk...lol...c4s as we knew them was a fall back for gm when what they planned didn't work out..sure it out handles and out performed many c3s so do some Hondas so what? I just couldn't warm up to them...but "hate" was I bit too much I admit.
The c4 to me felt like a Camaro or firebird it just didn't have a corvette feel to me, why would it to me c3 was corvette...then the c5 isn't bad looking but just looks so generic import to me...I like the styling of the c3s better any year c3...84 marked the starting year where old used corvettes were no longer classics but just another used car.
Sorry, you had a bad experience. The C4s came in a LOT of flavors and they kept getting better through the years.
I have had several C3s and am currently in C4 land. It is a totally different car than a C3 and comparisons just don't work.
To me the C4 is like that sultry, mature, sophisticated woman with a glass of smooth merlot giving you a come hither look while the C3 like a dancing, drunk sorority girl chugging a bud light. Every knows how both nights ends, but getting there is two completely unique experiences.
I'll return to C3s somewhere down the line but for now the C4 has a great feel.
That was good...and please take my run down in the same just for fun way I took yours,
Individual cars vary like people do,
In a way to me a c4 IS like some old gal trying to be sultry acting sophisticated but somehow you can tell there isn't much depth to it.
I gravitate to the c3s that are beasts hot loud unrefined perhaps uncomfortable at times...let's see a lady to compare to...hum, some bull ****...lol..naw..okay...how about tank girl or S Weaver in aliens...maybe Brienne from GOT ..or Furiosa from fury road...if I had to look at my c3 as female they would do it...
Anyhoo...I just didn't like my c4 and I hoped I would have I respect you guys who dig them..I liked my 66 a hair better than my 69 but I will never afford even a driver c2 again
