Are you using the original steering column?
The AIM indicates that the the splined end of the shaft should be slid into the upper end of the rag joint BEFORE any of the column mounting bolts at the firewall or cowl mounted support bracket are tightened.
Can you still do that?

Well yes if it be needed. but I think it will work as is. With things "finger" tight the alignment is now quit good.
