Default 71 Coupe value?

I know of a 71 Coupe being restored by a reputable shop that specializes in Vettes and would like some feedback on what it will be worth. Here is what is has or will have when complete:
Rebuilt and re-stamped LS5 (non-original)
Non-original 4 speed (probably M21?)
New leather interior including dash
New rubber
New fuel tank
Black lacquer now but originally Steel Cities Gray
New brakes and anything required to safety
New rear trailing arms
Has AC / PS / PB / Tilt (all will be working)
New (bigger) rad with electric fan

Basically it will be in great mechanical condition with non-original parts and it will need new paint at some point plus it has the rivet read-thru issue on the front valence. Body is decent besides the rivet issue. Any opinions on value when completed (before paint) and after returning to original color?

Is the car for sale? If so, what is the seller asking?

Wild guess here, I would guess about 18K before paint and 23-25 after a GOOD paint job.

Anymore accurate than that would require some pictures.

It is for sale and he hasn't totalled up the parts / labour yet but I expect it will come in around $22500 USD (it's in Canada).

I'm having a hard time using value finders like NADA or Hagerty because they only seem to grade them by condition and don't take degree of originality into account. A Hagerty valuation at grade 3 with those options is about $45k. Current asking prices tend to support that but of course they are all 'numbers matching' which, from what I have read, can mean many things LOL. Is the best thing just to get an appraiser who knows C3s?

Hi ST,
Welcome!
Considering a 71!!
VERY NICE!!!
What is your definition of "being restored"?
I find it difficult to even guess what you should pay for it from your info and no photos.
Have you done a thorough check for the condition of the frame and birdcage? Even though this is a reputable shop you should make that judgement for yourself.
A couple of things to consider:
At this point estimating the cost of a paint job is difficult because it's impossible to know what body work may be needed prior to the beginning of the actual prep for the new paint.
Often when a car has a really new paint job things that looked ok before began to look a little 'shabby'. Sometimes te-chroming of the bumpers and grills seems like it should be done.
The same thing is true for the stainless trim on the car.
So I think you need to be realistic about what money may need to be spent on this car to make you very happy with it.
How did this shop come upon this car and why are they 'restoring' it to some degree in order to sell it?
I'm not trying to discourage you or down the car, but you need to be well aware of just what your money is buying!
Regards,
Alan

I've seen the car but no pictures yet. Owner of the shop spent a lot of time with me and showed me the frame and what to look out for but I would get a third party appraisal if things get serious. I also spoke to the paint shop that they use, who specialize in corvettes, and without seeing it he said to budget about $7500USD for paint including stripping it and fixing the rivets. The 'restoration' is not body off. So after all is said and done it would be $30k minimum. I should probably factor in that we do not have a big selection of cars in Canada and it is costly to import so we pay a bit of a premium (and taxes, always with the 13% taxes!).

Thats $40000 CAD

Even in Canada we can find a pretty special car for that much $.
You probablly could even get an LT1.

Either way it better be picture perfect mint, numbers matching etc. not needing anything at all for 40K

How long have you been shopping for a C3?

I've been looking casually for a couple of years but getting more serious now. I spent a few hours making a spreadsheet on the weekend of all the similar cars for sale right now and the average asking price is over $51k CDN and not many had the options this one has or a fresh motor. But like I said, most claim numbers matching.

So this one sold at Barrett Jackson yesterday for $26,400 and it is very close to the one I'm looking at but does not have a 4-speed / AC / PS / PW. How much would those options add, $3000-4000k?

At least 10% fee, so now about $29000. I would say the 4 options you want could cost you more than $4000 additional.
IMHO
Most, not all want a 4 speed.

Just remember that COST DOES NOT EQUAL VALUE. You (the shop/buyer/seller/etc) will, more likely than not, be "upside down" when you restore a corvette.

I'm not restoring it, a local shop is and they are asking the equivalent of $22,500 USD. It has more options than the one auctioned for $26,400 but body / paint is not as good, however it will have rebuilt motor, new interior, etc.

Did that one go for $42,350 with a 350 motor? Seems high.
