Default Ashtray area gauge holder 3D printed - no modification needed

I just finished my ashtray gauge holder and thought I would post a few pics. Turns out that the base can be made to hold just about anything. The base presses down inside the ashtray area with the metal door flipped up. Its very nice and snug. I removed the metal ashtray itself so I can run wires and in this case a vacuum line up into the dash. Best thing is there are not modification needed to the vet. I built this one to hold a standard 2 inch (52mm) vacuum gauge. Because of the depth of the gauge and the angle I wanted to mount it at I was forced to have it protrude higher than I wanted - but in the end I'm fine with it.

I also 3D printed just the mounting plate by itself and found that gluing the riser on would also work and give ultimate control of angle. In fact just about any custom top attachment could be printed and affixed to the base - like a coin holder, cell phone holder, GPS, you get the idea.

Oddly I was thinking of a double gauge deal (see photo) but the second gauge is too close to the shifter so I bagged it.

I realize there are lots of improvements that could be made but I only had a little time in the evenings to play with it so once I got a good fit I kind of called it done. Of course printing another version is only a click away

This is awesome. Great use of a 3d printer and now it is making me think of all the other pieces that could be created for our cars.

Love the idea of printing parts... A great combination of new tech and old cars!

Fantastic work you did there. Your next project....CUPHOLDERS!!!
Then gauge bezels for people who want to change out to aftermakret stuff. The list can be endless.
Thanks for sharing it with us. I am an old fart who gets the concept of 3d printing but still doesn't believe that you can actually make something. Thanks.

I did a cupholder earlier this year. Fits snugly over the parking brake handle. Oddly it took a while to get the perfect diameter. Turns out 74 mm is the average that puts most cups about half way in.

These prints have been from PLA - mfg is Hatchbox. I might do them in ABS in the future but wanted to see the performance of PLA first.

Looks good - I'd think there would be a market for the gauge cluster as well as the main instrument panel printed out to accept AutoMeter gauges

I bought a kit 3D printer. My buddy assembled it, but I haven't got it to run yet.
