I took the wheels of,my 71' this weekend to clean them and re spray them. I noticed this small spot of weld on each wheel. 12 o'clock in he photo.
Why did they do this?
Hi Mb,
Most but perhaps not all 68-72 rally wheels are marked with a b-b sized dot of weld metal on the outside of the wheel to indicate the wheel's high point.
Each original tire was marked with an orange dot to be lined up with the weld dot on the wheel when installed.
I believe this practice stopped in the Spring of 72.

Alan
Hi Co,
This can be the start of a long conversation about what color the wheels are ….. the meaning of the word 'silver', the meaning of the word 'argent', and what year rally wheels have the 'greenish' tint.
You might consider just buying the rally wheel silver paint that most of the larger vendors sell!

Alan

I think I've asked the question before. I just thought I would ask in the hope that maybe he would be using a brand that's available here down under.
I have no idea why the previous owner of my car painted them charcoal when the car came over here in 2014 with the original colour wheels. Maybe he thought it would look better.
