no doubt they will go up but ins companies also want your business so of course they will encourage a high value.

I believe the vast majority of C3's are not sold at auctions. Maybe I'm wrong but I'd say what cars sell for at auctions is a poor guide as to what current values are.

Ive seen that about 95% of members overvalue their c3 while undercutting anyone elses,
I see a lot of people believe their c3 will fetch auction prices
Craigslist sold cars great reflection of real world sales and prices.

Not just that, but even the majority of C3's sold at auction probably aren't sold at big glitzy auctions like Barrett-Jackson and Mecum but are sold at little rinky dink auctions in the owners local town where selling prices are a lot less.

Many years ago I bought a rusty 75 Buick Lesabre. I did a proper job of rust repairs on it, painted it and put it up for sale for $2500. I had a couple of offers of around $1500, turned them down and then my brother convinced me to put it in the local auction at no reserve. I ended up getting $300 for it (less than I paid for it rusty) and after fees I netted $110.

While i think less and less of eBay each day that passes
It was years back a great real world gauge what the buying world thinks your car is worth,
Weeding past non payers and sport bidders and shills,
If i got board hearing some cat bray how much his car was worth i would say post it on ebay starting bid 1.00 then reserve at what you think it's worth,
Reality hurts and most would rebuttle to me, "everyone just wants something for nothing" um no, your car or part is overpriced,
I have also seen guys tell their wife they will sell their car and then overprice it because they don't really want to sell it

Looking Ebay completed listings. When you see a green price there, that means somebody said yeah I'll pay this much and the seller said yeah I'll accept this much. Doesn't necessarily mean the car actually sold for that but at least you get an idea what the sellers willing to take the of the reticle buyer is willing to pay.

Seriously, whether you are looking for a chrome bumper car or a rubber bumper car, I don’t know of a better value than the market on these cars.

It appears to me that the market for chrome bumper C3's have been pretty flat for the past 10 years or so. Unless it's something special, it's just another C3. The market is flooded with LS5's for sale...no demand? Looking back 40 plus years, I think I kept the wrong car.
Looks like it's still a buyers market.

All classic cars are climbing right now because the stock market has created expendable income. I just sold a car yesterday (not a Corvette) for 25% more than I could have got for it a year ago.

If the market tanks much more and/or inflation gets much worse expect those C3 valuations Haggerty wrote about to come back in line.

Agreed. $19K is quite a low-bar. These cars are costly to fix/restore. Not that one expects to get 100 cents on the dollar for money poured into a restored car, but it would cost a lot more than $19K or even $29K. Paint alone is big money...

I think that the chrome bumper cars should start increasing in value but I don't expect to see a dramatic increase anytime soon.

Under the edict never argue with a moderator...I'll just add to the discussion! lol

While I dont think anyone considers January Barrett-Jackson numbers to be consistent with the market the other 364 days of the year, I'd say its been a long time since you could get a fully loaded 4 speed A/C turn key chrome bumper car for under 19k.

I think SOMEONE here needs to mention condition. The moderator said TURN-KEY and I understand...but that means different things to different people. There are tons of 68-72 (73's are coming up too) cars that can be bought readily for under $20k. I know of a '68 convertable SB 350/350 4 spd A/C car that can be had for about $12-13....trouble is...it's kind of tatty. Runs and drives, therefore turn-key.
Great car for someone who wants to put the sweat equity in....but not an 'auction car'.

I live right next to B-J....now 25 years continuous. B-J should NEVER be used as a specific mark or pricepoint of ANY car. The place is a pissing match. When you are dealing with a guy who is on vacation and has $2,000,000 burning a hole in his pocket....What's $75 k for a BB??? It's like us dropping a dime and saying my back hurts too much to pick it up!

I go to B-J for one reason...where can you see a 69 convertible with ORIGINAL 35 miles on it and the plastic still on the seats? The level of perfection or originality is pretty hard to beat.

I was at Silver Auction the following day a triple black C-5 'vert went thru and sold for $7500!!! (steal it!) It's a crap-shoot!

B-J just sets the PSYCHOLOGY of the market FOR THAT YEAR....comfort in spending money, rising tide, etc....not specific prices.

Unkahal

You can argue with any moderator about thread topics and differing opinions all you want. Who said you couldn’t?

I guess you don't take your brother's advice anymore when it comes to cars. The weather will be warming up soon so looking forward to your updates on your chrome bumper conversion.
