Default Kick Panel and carpet question

Hi Folks-
I'm starting to replace the carpet in my 81, and have a kick panel question. At the top of the passenger kick panel, there is a metal bracket riveted to the panel which hold the interior light. Is there some way to take this bracket off without breaking the panel, or would it be more sensible to just trim the carpet to go around it and leave it alone?

Thanks

It is a pop rivet. Drill it out and replace it.

I would trim around it myself.
