Is there any problems using the GM aluminum water pump on my 68 L36. It currently has a cast painted to match unit?

I'm running a polished aluminum on my car with no issues except the back plate (metal) facing the motor started to rust on the edges. I think you said yours was going to be painted. You should be OK.

I have this one. No issues.
The pulley touches a little in the beginning but it gets grooved pretty quick.
