Trim pieces sticky
Often the vinyl has gotten sticky over the years. It seems to be more prevalent in cars that have been smoked in, and in certain pieces.
I think it's best to use progressively stronger cleaners until you are able to remove it. Stay away from things like lacquer thinner or alcohol unless you find nothing else that will work. And even then just use a dampened cloth.
If you decided to re-dye the stickiness would need to be completely removed in order to promote the dyes adhesion to the vinyl.
