Can anyone recommend speakers that will fit in lower front kick panels without having to do a ton of fitting. Something that won't bankrupt the budget but give a good basic sound I have a 68 vert Thanks Phil
I just installed a pair of Rockford Fosgates into my '69 kick panels.
They are the 6 1/2" rounds.
All I needed was to trim slightly on the backside of the speaker frames to fit properly, screwed them directly to the existing holes in the metal, and then the trim panel screwed in right over them. I did mount the round grilles OVER the trim panels, and dremel'd out the pass-thru area of the plastic (they were pretty trashed already anyway). The grilles screwed directly into the speakers, so no additional holes in metal needed.
They sound pretty good on their own, but lacked some bass punch with the new Retrosound head unit I installed (25W RMS there). So I added the R-F powered, amp'd Compact Subwoofer, which is a great add for $189, and also enables me to get more bass without cranking up the fronts to the point of distortion.
With the T-tops off and the loud exhaust roaring, the stereo needs all the help it can get.
Just put the size speakers you're looking for into your search engine. You should find so many it'll take you a week to decide. I put dash speakers and kick panel speakers in with an amp, plus a rear woofer with amp in the 6t8. With the top down, on the hwy I don't even bother turning the radio on, can't hear it. T
I put 4x6's in the dash and the kicks. Some people don't like the smaller kicks but I wanted it to look stock with the cover on it.
I grabbed some scrap metal I had lying around and cut out the hole for the speaker, then went into the car to make it fit. Once done, I grabbed some left over rust paint and coated all sides of the metal.
I ended up pop riveting the metal in to make it easier on myself.
I also put in some foam backing in case I had another leak down the bird cage.
