Default Lower dash pad question

I need to replace my 1970 driver side lower dash pad and when I look at new ones from various vendors they list one number for 68-77. I know that the tach mount is different on certain years although I am not sure of the break. I also see some vendors such as Wilcox list both a generic version and a year specific version.

My question is on how the generic version fits? Do you just not use the bottom bracket on the tach side? I will be looking for the right 70 one I was just wondering how the other fit. Of course vendors may send the right year when you order however there is a price difference.

Hi spf,
I looked and don't see a 'generic' pad at the Willcox site.
I believe it can't be a 69 pad because the 69 pad doesn't have the stitching along the edge at the center gauge bezel.
I'm not sure what makes a 70 pad a one year only? Did it have the stitching or not? What you present pad look like?
I think the myriad of pads available is because of the numerous interior colors.
Regards,
Alan

The double row of stitching at the center gauge bezel.

The one I see on Wilcox is part number DP09FAX that lists all the years. I got here looking at the sale post listed on the forum under dash pads. I see they also list the years broken out under a different part number hence my question. I saw the same on other sites as well. Probably just st the way they choose to list them although they are different priced as well.

I do not know what makes the 70 different other than the way the tach mounts.

70 lower dash panels are different in the way the mate to the shifter console. 70 has a longer point with no interlocking with the center console. This caused the points to flare out over time. 71 has a shorten tip that interlocks with the center console. i believe this was the correction to the 70's issue. You can see this difference from Alan's pic. Obviously the center console is also different Pic from my 70

Hi spf,
Here's the tach mount on a 71 pad. I don't know if it shows enough?
The 70 is different?
Regards,
Alan

Here's the tiny 'tab' that was added to the shifter console. You can just see it extending out at the left side forward corner. It's
VERY tiny.

The 2 different designs will not fit together. IMO most venders don't know or don't care about the differences.

If you are going to get the dash pad, go with the CA brand dash pad. The tooling on this pad is new and the fit is awesome. Use one of the numbers from this link. If I knew the color I'd send you the exact link. But if you search the site by Year and then in the search box enter color... the site will pull you a mini list on the left hand side and then select dash pad. :thumb: Willcox
