Help identifying firewall sealer materials
I need help replacing materials/sealers that where originally used in the wiper well/firewall areas.
The 1st one is on the bottom of the wiper well it looks roofing tar???
The 2nd one is below the corner of the windshield and it is between the metal birdcage firewall and fiberglass fender, it stuffed down a few inches into the cavity, it looks like clay or butyl???
The 3rd is between the metal birdcage and the fiberglass firewall, this one I am told I could CRL Windshield and Repair Butyl Sealant CRL1716.

Hi RD,
What you're thinking is what many people use.
Black roofing cement from the home store for the wiper bay floor.
Butyl or 3M strip sealer for around the base of the windshield and the firewall/cowl joint.
What was used between the top of the underside of the fender and the lock pillar is a bit odder.
Originally when it was applied it was 'pump- able', but it set up fairly firm. Firm rubber of some kind.
Regards,
Alan

Melting Slicks
Lowes has a caulk that I used around some commercial windows to seal them, might be what you are looking for, goes on easily, small time to smooth up, then dries really fast.

I used 3M automotive undercoating for the wiper well, inner fender skirts, etc..

your firewall has started to delaminate from the birdcage, thus the gap beteen the cage and firewall,
you need to remove the rivets, and reattach/glue firewall back on, and install new rivets to get it sealed.
I used Por 15 on the window frame and the wiper tray area to seal everything up afterwards.

Alan: As always Thank you
L76: I’ll look for that a Lowes
EMike: 3M Undercoating 08881 Looks Perfect
69V: Sandblast and POR15 is my plan. What do you plan to use to seal your fiberglass firewall to the metal birdcage?

Hi RD,
From what I see I don't think….
"your firewall has started to delaminate from the birdcage, thus the gap beteen the cage and firewall, you need to remove the rivets, and reattach/glue firewall back on, and install new rivets to get it sealed."
There is typically a small gap there that that some sealer was applied in.
It's shown in the AIM.
In the 71 AIM it on on the "Dash & Center Plenum Panel" sheet. UPC 1 Bolt/Weld, Sheet A13, Sealer #150.
Regards,
Alan
The original sealer used in that gap has become a chalky white material.

I used the 3M two part brand epoxy can't remember the number off hand.
to rebond back to birdcage and of course riveted everything back together.
I finished this car a year or 2 ago, my avatar picture is this same bird cage.
link to my C3 restoration pictures, you might find them helpful.
