Default what does this actuator do....

Hi All,

Had wiper door mechanism out to repair a sheared actuator linkage (long story!); and came across an actuator that a) I didnt know was there.... and b) can't seem to find in the '68 AIM..

Under the passenger side fender in the wiper door well? many thanks for clarification!

That door closes when you put your a/c on Max.

ahh... so it WAS an A/C car.... i thought it might have been, but the system has been completely gutted... (The firewall was blocked up with a baking tray and a few wood screws )

i'm trying to get the components together to reinstate the heater; but it seems 68 parts don't grow on trees anymore...

Thanks!

A/C cars also didn't have the two vent levers on either side of the console.

The pictured actuator closes a door, and another actuator opens the door down by the passengers right foot in that kickpanel.

the '68 console plate was also taken at some point... when i bought it, it had a 72-76 plate 'sort of' stuck where it should have been

I've now got a '68 plate, and the correct levers/frame - I just havnt got to the interior yet!

given that it has the actuators at the moment; do you know if i need anything else other than the cables to convert it back to standard cable actuation if i remove the actuators?

It was all vacuum operated. The only cable I have is from the Temp wheel to the mixing door. Mine is a '72.

This one is a '68 - and as i'm discovering... there were lots of 'one year' parts that are now difficult to get hold of!

The A/C cars ran vacuum everything, like the later cars - but the non A/C cars were cable operated... it seems that I have an A/C car - that I am trying to convert to a non A/C car because a) getting an A/C system would be even more painful than getting a heater... b) i don't think i'd have a rabbits chance at a greyhound track in getting it to fit (big block with awkwardly shaped headers) and c) it wouldnt get much use here in the UK; where the weather is routinely terrible!

Do you have the 68 AIM? The AIM shows the AC installation and, in this case, what is not on your car.

Left side vents are blocks off and not used for AC cars, so you won't need to attempt to run a left side vent cable. For the right side, you will want to replace the kick panel vacuum actuator and hardware to fit a cable.

Hi DV,
Here's the kick panel vent plenum opening, door, bowden cable and it's bracket on the right side of a 71 non a/c car.
The are spring-loaded 'pins' on the top and bottom of the door that allow the cable to pivot the door open and closed.
The configuration is about the same for the left side.
Regards,
Alan
