500,000, wow! What have you done to the engine to keep it running that long?

Actually June of 2015. I bought mine in May of 2011. Not running. Took it apart the first 2 weeks of owning it. When I finally got it on the road I was surprised how nicely it drove.

The engine was rebuilt once around 85,000 I think it was. It was burning a little oil most noticeable as blowing blue smoke on start up, a somewhat common issue with the L82 at the time. Since then though all I've done is change the oil and filter and drive. I'd say probably 70%+ is long distance highway driving the rest to and from work which was a long enough trip to get things fully warmed up.

These days I hardly drive it much. It runs pretty strong but seems to run a little rich. Leaks power steering and transmission fluid a lot but thankfully not much oil leaking.

500,000 km, that's like 300,000 miles, right? Wow.

My first ride in a C3 was in a '63 split window. It belonged to my friends brother. We were supposed to be working on it. We went joy riding instead.

We ended up throwing an alternator belt after a high rpm shift. It started overheating so we had to stop. My friend had to call his brother to come get the car. All hell broke loose.

Whoops guess that was my first Corvette ride. Not in a C3 though.

Not only first drive of a C3, also the first drive of any Corvette. November of 2011 (a 69th B'day present to me). First drive, first own. All in one day. Have a great week, Bill

Back to my first drive,
I stop at my house loose the hard top,
I take off to drive it down the highway, ive owned the car 30 minutes why not,
Mid day traffic keeps me from being stupid and the plesant smell of overheating coolant fills the air as steam starts to pour, i pull over pop the hood and shes blowing her top,
Two fellows in a pos 70s import pull over to help, how did i know they where charlie mansons answer to cheech and chong,
Cheech pours a gallon of filthy water into my radaitor says i should be good, i offer him a couple bucks for the help and chong steps up, telling me what water and help costs these days i better dig deeper, or might get hurt.
I drop down in the seat peel out leaving them in a hail of road debris,,
I get off at the next exit still running hot,
It was a stuck stat that i fixed later that day,
Fun.....damn, i miss that car

The first C3 that I drove was in 1970. I had a 63 convertible at the time, but fell in love with the C3. I bought my 69 coupe in June of 1970 and still have the car today.

I hope to drive my first C3 soon but when I was a teenager working at a service station the owner was a Vette guy who would buy and flip nice C2s. He used to keep them outside during the day and bring them inside at night. One day he gave me the keys to a 66 convertible with a 427 / 425hp 4 speed (I think). I barely knew how to drive a stick and thought I might put it through a wall but I wasn't going to pass up the chance. So I have about 40 feet of experience in a Vette so far- 20 in reverse and 20 in first gear. Sure had a nice rumble to it though.

My first experience was in High School. My stepfather purchased a 1979 L-82 4 speed. Black with Oyster interior. I'll never forget the first time he let me drive it. It was nothing like what i had driven before. You could feel the power (not much by today's standard) and the car would speak to me while driving it. I drove it to High School auto shop where we installed a set of headers. I'll never forget driving it home that day with open headers... i was hooked. Later that year he let me take my girlfriend (now my wife of 30 years) to my prom in it. THAT is what drove me to buy my current C3. 1980 Black on Black with a 4 speed. Brings alot of memories back. Yes it's not as fancy and the newer cars that will back up for you and park, let you know when you're departing your lane and stop for you when you're not paying attention. But to me it's a drivers car. You can feel the road and feel what the car wants to do next. It's something that my kids will experience once they get more driving time under their belt!

I test drove a blue 1974 4-speed Vette in 1995, I loved it but could not afford it, took me another 15 years before I could own one.

Default 1970 Corvette Coupe

First C3 drive was in my brand new 1970 Corvette 350/turbo 400 that was bought in August 1970 from the Chevrolet dealer. Still driving it today. Sold my 1964 Corvette convertible with factory air conditioning in 1969.

My husband likes to watch Mayday, a show about plane crashes. A lot of times the plane crash is due to pilots becoming overly reliant on automation designed to help them with the flying. I'm sure with the automation in new cars well start to see car crashes due to drivers failing to react as they expect the automation to always do it for them. For this reason I'll never let a new car driver drive my C3.

I was about 11 or 12. My Dad took me to a parking lot to see if he could teach me how to drive a car (stick). I then got to back it out of the garage at first with his supervision and directions and then back into the garage for washing, waxing it, or for maintenance! Then at like racetrack lunch laps when I was slightly older!

My first vette was a 1974....it was not the best car.....it constantly had problems, and was under powered. sold it before it went out of warranty. Good looking car and drove great. Loved the corvette since I was a kid and could not wait to get one.
My 2013 is the best one I have owned.

I worked at a local Chevy dealer after school in 1975-76. I got to drive a lot of new Corvettes around the parking lot and had to clean them up for delivery. I remember my first Corvette drive though was in a Riverside Gold '69 that I had to drive to the customer's house after it was in for service. I drove very carefully, but I remember noticing how much more responsive the steering was than in my family's Nova and Impala.

In 76, I was a lot attendant for Casey Chevrolet, so I drove every new one that arrived. not a bad deal for a high school senior.
