Still trying to get my center console figured out. Does anyone recognize any of these wires? Are they used or left by the factory for future add on's? My entire interior was disassembled and in boxes when I got the car. Any direction would be greatly appreciated
Thanks to all I am making progress. I found a copper ring does that go to clock? I have been told orange wire is cig lighter , blue and green wire is speaker. I noticed that there is a grey and a black wire that the ends have been cut off. There is a black and grey wire farther up towards the wire harness towards the dash. Does anyone think they go back together? There is just a few more to figure out and I can move on hooray

Hi Lr,
Do you have the wiring schematic from the Assembly Manual to refer to?
You can look for connectors with pairs of wires in those color combinations.
What area of the dash are the wires located…. left, center, right?
What's not hooked up yet?… 4-way flasher, turn signal flasher, courtesy lights, gauges, shifter light, cigarette light or lamp, a/c control lamp, speakers?????
Regards,
Alan
Orange wire with the white connector is for your cig lighter. Agree with Alan, look for the mate of each connector. I've had mine apart a number of times and have always been to reconnect base on finding the mate. Good luck
Blue/green is a speaker wire.
Think the yellow/purple wires are neutral safety switch.
I'm reaching here but I think the 2 black wires with that flat plug is seatbelt buzzer/warning lite.

Hello Alan thanks for helping. The wires I am focusing on now are in the center of the console area. I do not have a diagram but will try to follow the posting recommends to locate one. So for I have relays hooked up 1 flasher I can identify power window connections. The car has no stereo yet and one of our friends indentified the orange wire as a cigarette lighter and was correct the the flat wire was for the seatbelt. It looks like everything is hooked up for the heater and air control. I do not have anything hooked up on the instrument cluster yet. It has a large plug in the center. Maybe something plugs on to the back of the gauges somewhere. I have looked for places to plug things in and similar colored wires. I just don't know if parts are missing. Thanks for your help so far.

Many thanks you where right on about the seat belt plug in. If the Yellow purple wires are the neutral safety switch would they go down through the opening by the stick shifter to the trans? Again thanks for your help I really need it and appreciate it!!
If it's a manual trans, that pair of wires is taped back to the harness as the safety switch if on the clutch linkage under the dash.
So my car is a manual transmission. I traced the wire back to under the dash and I found a connection of the purple and yellow wires. But the connection was unplugged one of the connections has a home made jumper wire stuck inside the connector in a u shape shorting the purple and yellow wire together. I am assuming to by pass the switch So I am assuming that I need to remove jumper wire and replace it with a wire connecting it to the switch by the clutch? That would mean the wire under the center console is there only for a manual transmission? What do you think?
GM provisioned harnesses with connectors for both manual and automatic safety switches. The one you're showing is for the NSS that mounts to the shift lever on an automatic. The actual switch for a manual car is mounted way high on the left side of the column support. The wires come out of the harness within 6 inches of the fuse block under the dash- same location for the rear body harness. Vendors sell a short jumper that connects the main harness pigtail to the clutch switch.
[QUOTE=KapsSA;1594302268]Ebay link for a pic.
The switch in the main pic is for the brakes. Look at the side pic that shows the "scizzors" type switch.....http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-1982-CO...3D271845678316[/QUOTE
Thanks I will go find that switch on my pedal. When I locate it is that where the yellow and purple one goes?
Single pink w/black strip with connector: Should have a mating connector coming from the rear defog switch. Unused if no rear defog.
Grey and black pair with non-factory (red) connectors: Unknown. Such is usually for a light that comes on with the headlights but there is no such in that location in '79. Perhaps someone added their own ashtray light as there was none in '79.
Black wire with large ring connector: cigar lighter ground
Brown wire with clear connector: Power blower fan (all speeds except high). You should find the mating connector coming from the fan switch.
Orange wire with clear connector: Power for cigar lighter
Grey and black pair with clipped ends: Shifter illumination. It's missing the twist in bulb holder like those used in the cluster.
Two black wires in black connector: Seat belt warning. It's mate comes out of the driver side seat belt latch.

You're quite welcome.
Another possibility for that first grey and black pair of wires is that they are the original ground (black) and dial light power (grey) that led to the factory radio. That would explain the non-factory connectors.
If you hook up that amp you found under the seat be certain that you run a dedicated ground to a firm connection point on the chassis. Do NOT hook into ground in the existing harness! Why? It is filled with splices and barely adequate for the power it handles. When working on the cabin harness in my '79 (only stock accessories) every splice showed signs of overheating.

My car did not have any amp that I know of anyway. My interior was out and in boxes
