I just found the matching numbers on my 77 L82 but I can't figure out if the color matches the vin number. The last 6 numbers of the vin. are stamped on the engine below the engine serial number. It is dark blue with tan interior. Can anyone read the number below and let me know if the colors match?
VIN. 1Z37X7S41273
ENG. V1027CLF
What I know is:
350 cu 210 hp (L82)
3 speed auto tran.
dark blue exterior
tan leather interior
I am not sure if the blue is the original color?

Reason: add picture
That does not look like 77 dark blue. Not only does it appear to be to light a shade of blue, but it also looks like it might be metallic. The 77 dark blue was a solid color, with no metallic in it.
77 also had a light blue metallic, but it was quite a bit lighter than the blue, on your car.
The color codes are not included in the VIN number, they're found on the trim tag, riveted to the left front door jam. What are the codes on the trim tag? Dark blue was paint code 28, light blue was code 26.
Either way, it's a good looking car. Good luck with it!

I didn't know where the lag was located. I will look for the numbers. I knew it had been repainted. Now that I know it is a matching number car I would like to keep it as original as "I can afford" to do.

Thanks for the help.
This is the tag you want to find. It's up above the left front door hinge, at the top of the door jam. It could be natural stainless, like this one, or it might have been painted during the repaint.
I'm not sure if I am "over excited" about finding the matching numbers, but I think it is outstanding to find a 40 year old vet that does.
Thanks for the compliments about the car. I put new shocks, suspension kit, hydraulic steering system, ball joints, A/C compressor, heater core & generator. I need to replace the seat covers /cushions, dash board, carpet, repaint the hood & tune the engine. I hope that will make it something to be proud of.
Hi DH,
This 'Stingray' question seems to come up now and then.
There was nothing that was changed in the car besides the adding of the script. 68 cars didn't have the script but 69 + (until what year..75 ?) cars had the script.
I think it's much ado about nothing. A car's not better or worse, or more desirable or less desirable, because it happens to be one of the years that had the script or one of the years that didn't.
I think when people ask about Stingray they may be remembering the mid-year cars that were sometimes referred to as Sting Rays. I don't know that I've ever referred to my car as a 'Stingray'.
It's a Corvette!
Regards,
Alan
1977 was the first year C3 since 1968 to appear without the Stingray logo. In almost every other way it remained the same car as before. ('77 was the first C3 Corvette fitted with a "corporate" radio.)
If you like the Stingray logo, I say add it. It takes nothing away from any other Stingray and adds no more value to your car than the cost of the emblems!

It really does not matter to me if it is a Stingray or not. I just wanted to know how to answer the question. Thanks again!

How do I tell if it has a "corporate radio" or not?

Being a "corporate" radio simply means it was a standard size GM radio. Prior to 1977 the Corvette radio was unique to the Corvette and a standard GM radio would not fit. Consequently as GM started offering 8-tracks and cassette radios in other GM vehicles, they did not offer anything but AM/FM or AM/FM Stereo in the '68 - '76 Corvette. In '77 (and later) you could get AM/FM with 8-Track and later with CB or cassette.
If your car has a standard GM radio it is very likely original and would look similar to this one with 8-track.

That's a great looking 77
Sounds like you did a lot of work on it already.
I believe your interior color is called buckskin.
Would love to see more pics, best of luck with it.
