Hi Experts.
Looking for some good advice for cleaning out all the corrosion from the battery tub in my '69 coupe.
I've bought new brackets and rivets and plan to install them in the next week or two, but there is so much acidic corrosion in the area around the front and rear brackets, that I can't even tell what/if there's any hardware in place at all.
The battery has been living in the tub semi-loose with only a hunk of 2x4 in front and rear of the battery to keep it from knocking around while driving.
What's the best method (and chemical) to remove the corrosion from the bottom of the tub, just to see if I have any brackets/rivets remaining to remove?
I'd really like to take it down to the base fiberglass, and build up from scratch with the new hardware.
Thanks!
Pull the cables out or any plugs that may be in the bottom of the tub. Scrub as above and rinse with water. Let it dry. Unless you're concerned about originality, you could drill a couple of holes for drains and them put plugs in them.
