Troubleshooting radio?
When I turn it on I can hear the speakers "click" but there is no audio.
The radio does not light up
If I turn the dial across the FM band I get faint blips of static, but it's mostly dead silence.
The radio worked one time and that was it.
Then somehow like an idiot I got the battery cables crossed- not sure if this could be connected to the radio stopping?
Scour your electrical schematic for fusible links and/or ask for their locations from other owners. You can't LOOK at a fusible link to know whether it is bad [or not] as the insulation is non-flammable. But, there might not be any wire left inside that insulation.
I did fry the fusible link at the starter but have repaired. This was several months ago and it appears everything works on this car except the radio and clock. Though based on things I read the c3 clock not working seemed normal!

As far as a fusible like- the wipers AND radio are both powered by the same source (ignition switch)- the clock is a totally different circuit with the cigarette lighter- that's not the problem...
The radio only 'lights up' when you turn on your dash lights (via the headlight switch)
Your radio has two parts- headunit in the dash and an external amp behind the pass dash(see below). OK- not really an amp but a heatsink for the output transistors.
To me- if it sounds as the output transistors are bad. You can try tapping on them gently say with the handle of a screwdriver- and see what happens.
If nothing- you'll need to send the radio AND the external amp to one of several guys that rebuild them.
