Default What size thread is this screw?

My hazard light control **** screw was missing and I need to replace it. Does anyone know the size and threads per inch? My 6-32 tap does not start but my 4-40 tap screws in nicely but its loose. I'm thinking 5-40?

Johnnie,

The one on a T/T I'm working on now measures 6-32 and 3/4" long.

Thanks for verifying that. You are correct. I eventually found a 6-32 screw and it works great. I guess the reason my tap didn't go in was that the thread depth in the steering column is so shallow it is critical for the tap to be perpendicular to the hole...LOL.
