Default Heater core

Going to be replacing heater core. Prices are all over the place. Anyone have any thoughts, recommendations on a reliable core? Anything else to replace or correct while I am there syndrome?

Thanks in advance.

Actually no specific recommendations...my main concern is getting one that will actually fit like the original. I get mine through the radiator repair shop I use so when I take the heater box with me when I go and get it...if it needs to be tweaked and made to fit.. I can do it right then and there.

Do you prefer aluminum or brass/copper cores.

I would get a seal kit for the the heater box. I know Zip sells one because that's where I got mine. It has all the seals that you should replace while you have the heater box out.

I went with brass, from Willcox, replaced the seals also. 40 yr old foam was just to tired to re-use. I also replaced the heater hoses as I was there. I would suggest buying the proper ones as they have a bend formed in them. I would have had my core repaired if I could have found a place near to me that still does that type of work as it would fit perfect. Replacements are close but not exact, or atleast that was my experience. I replaced all my dash bulbs, my dash vents and foam seals also. I did it a few winters ago so time wasnt a issue. I used the theory that since it was all apart that was the time to change it. Not the worst job ive ever done but for what it takes thats why i replaced the other items.
