Anyone looked at this '68 near Indy?
1968 427 asking $35,000.
https://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/6021670244.html
Pictures could be better.
I may go out there this weekend.
Not thrilled with the price tag and I didn't want a 427 but I just can't find a black / black near me, aside from this.

Looks like a potentially nice car.

Have you talked to the seller? Is it a real 427 black car, or was it originally red, green, blue or some other color? For that kind of money, it should be a true black/black big block car.
From the heater control and the upper dash vent, the car looks like it may have had air conditioning, but there is no compressor on it (and the dash vent is a 69 up part, not the one piece vent used in 68).
In case you didn't catch it, the wheels look like 69 up 15x8's. 68's came with 15x7's. Under the hood, the engine has a later HEI distributor, and that washer bottle isn't correct for a 68. Not a big deal, but the radio ***** are wrong too.
Is it me, or does it look like the front fenders and rear quarters, have been replaced with ones with 70-82 wheel opening flares?
It looks like a pretty car, but don't be swayed by the shiny black paint. At $35,000, I think it should be matching numbers, both the engine and paint codes.
Good luck!

The pictures aren't great, and the add tells you nothing!

all wheel arches are the flared ones, 70 onwards . check the vin tag for sure, either new rivets or a 70 plus vin on the screen surround .
possible to that maybe someone glassed in some later wheel arch edges all round . I have seen two , a 69 and a 68 here that have had that done to them

Everything about it screams 68. The grills, grill moldings, side marker lights, doors, tail lamps, exhaust tips, side louvers, door panels, dash, gauge cluster, parking brake console, seats, steering wheel, steering column, and 68 only door jam alignment wedges, all point to this car being a 68. Other than the grills, grill moldings and side louvers, none of those parts are shared with any Corvette built after 68.
Adding the 70 up wheel flares has been a very common modification for 68's and 69 Corvette's, ever since GM changed the wheel openings in 70. Some owners did it to update the look of their Corvettes, but many did it because they got tired of their paint getting sandblasted by dirt, stones and gravel, thrown up by the tires.
I have a friend who has a 68 that his father bought new. In 71, his father had the 70 wheel flares added to his 68, along with an L-88 hood, Hooker Header side pipes, Ansen Sprints and a Motion style stripe. Today the car is unchanged from the way his father built it in 1971, including the 70 wheel flares.

Hi ICD,
Welcome!
The ad really gives VERY little information about the car so it's impossible to form much of an opinion about it.
My thought is to try to decide what the value of a REALLY nice 68 427 black coupe would be.
Then the ASKING price of this car begins to indicate what THIS car presently is.
I believe it will depend on what you're looking for in an older Corvette as to whether this car is something you should even consider.
What are you looking for?
Regards,
Alan

Okay, if the seats are original and the steering column is original then it has 2 definite and rare options, tele column, no tilt and headrests. Good things if youre looking for rare and cool. Hopefully its the original 427 and not a replacement 454.

Thanks, Alan.
You are spot on when you ask, "what are you looking for?"
Great question.
Here is my list
An asterisk indicates items I must have.
All others are negotiable.
1972 Model Year
T-Tops*
350 cid V-8. Essentially, I just don't want a bigger hood bulge, it’s not that I would minda bigger stock engine.
4 speed manual*
Tuxedo Black exterior*
Black interior*
Air conditioner
No luggage rack*
No side pipes*
-----Options-----
Tilt-Telescopic Steering Column* (I’m about 6’ 4”)
Three Point SeatBelts
Power Windows
Rear Window Defroster
Air Conditioning
Power Brakes
Power Steering
Deluxe Wheel Cover
AM/FM Radio Stereo
I have a "benchmark" price for this vintage - 68 or 69: $38,995:

I could see paying that much for a '69 like this one.
I'll compare the two.
