Default 1972 original fuel pump question

I have the original fuel pump off my 72 base small block. I replaced it when I was having problems, turned out to be the carb. Problem solved with having Lars rebuild a quadrajet for me. Now the question, is there any way to test a fuel pump, short of putting it back on the car. If it's bad can these original "crimped" AC fuel pumps be rebuilt? If so, do the cores have any value. The numbers stamped on the pump are 40769, which is the correct number for a base 72 small block.

look at post #4 on this link referring to Fred Ballard, I'm not sure if he is still in business. The pump has to be on a car to test it.

Hi MW,
Thanks for the link!
I've read and heard about folks who supposedly rebuild the crimped pumps but this is the first I've seen an actual name and his explanation of what he does!
Thanks again!
Regards,
Alan

Report back what you guys find out - I would be interested in having mine restored too. Nothing wrong with it now, but I'd rather install a replacement and send my original out for restoration.
