Where can I find paint to match my white 1973 Corvette? I'm going to be repainting an extra Corvette hood I have & I want it to match my car. Any car painting tips help as well
I gather you are painting the hood yourself. You should be able to locate an automotive paint store near you and have them mix what you need. Does your 73 still have the OEM classic white? If it was repainted what type is it, single or 2 stage? I believe you have lacquer paint (no longer made) if it is original so don't expect a great match to today's paint. Don't for get to properly prep the new hood to seal it and apply the right primer before your top coating final paint.
Looks like you have some homework to do.
Hi,
The acrylic lacquer that the 73s were painted with is still being produced.
It depends where you're located as to whether you can find/buy it. But it could VERY WELL be your car has been repainted with some other kind of paint.
Since the hood is surrounded on 3 sides with other painted areas it's a very difficult part to match.
There are many, many factors that will determine how difficult the match will be.
Some automotive paint suppliers have a computer that 'looks' at the paint and is able to generate a formula for the tech to use to mix the paint.
Even when using this method it often takes at least several tries to get an acceptable match.
Do you have the equipment and experience to paint a hood?

Alan
